I had an appointment with an orthopedist today to follow up on the knee. He was soooooo much more helpful than the ER doctor, but then, he's a specialist, so that makes sense

Wow, good luck with that. Knees are unfortunate things. Mine aren't great, and I fear trouble with them in the future, but for now ok at least...
Also, I think it is 'arthroscopic'. I don't think that those surgeries are too bad, as they go...athletes seem to have them frequently, and if the damage was minor in the first place they seem to recover quite quickly (that is, I think that the recovery time on the damage rather than the disruptiveness of the surgery is the bigger issue...)
Good luck with the MRI--hopefully it won't need surgery. However, if surgery is required, arthroscopic is relatively less-invasive. My surgery last year was somewhat for different knee issues (excess scar tissue, most likely from the initial bone bruising injury), but my dad had meniscal surgery done last year and was pitching again in a few weeks, and he's heading towards 60. Still though, crossing fingers for non-surgery.

And given that evenings are getting chilly again, I'm glad you've been cleared for hot tub use. *grin*
