Zombie knee!

I just set up a surgery date for my knee, October 24 (a little over three weeks away). I'm leaning heavily towards using an allograft (cadaver tissue) rather than using a tendon from my own knee. So I'll have a zombie knee, right? And just in time for Halloween. My brother wanted to know if they tossed in a free exorcism for when the knee ( Read more... )

One of my coworkers went through this about six months ago; she's a black belt TKD'er, too, and teaches at one of the schools here. She's back to doing most normal stuff, like hiking, etc, though any TKD kicks that twist it too much still appear to be out (and she named her new zombie knee Charlie). If you have questions, I could pass you on her email, and she said she'd be happy to answer any questions you have!

She says that starting PT before the surgery will help...

That would be great, actually.

My email (I don't remember if you have it) is woobat at gmail.

I'm haven't officially started PT, but I talked to the athletic trainers here at the mothership, and have been working on exercises that they've recommended to strengthen the injuried leg. It doesn't help that it's my off leg (and has always been weaker... probably contributed to the injury, if I had to guess).

"My brother wanted to know if they tossed in a free exorcism for when the knee starts trying to take over the rest of me (and through me, the world), but I told him that wasn't included."

That shouldn't be a problem unless the knee tissue comes from a psycho killer.

But will you be able to trade up for a chainsaw?

...Come to think of it, how would you walk on a chainsaw?

Glad the surgery is scheduled; makes the whole recovery process begin sooner. :-)

Zombie knee, that's pretty awesome.

And pencil me in for a visit. I (or we, if we're both around) will gladly come over, attempt to entertain you, and bring you tasty edibles.

*hugs* - just think how cool it will be to creep out your grandkids someday by telling them how you dug up a body and took some of the remaining connective tissue to repair your knee. Or, er, um....
