Surgery tomorrow....eeeep.

Surgery tomorrow at a bright and cheery 6:15 a.m. Ugh. My mum pointed out that it's better to be early rather than later in the day, since I'm not allowed to eat or drink anything after midnight tonight ( Read more... )

Sending all sorts of good thoughts your way!

And yes, Pirateofcatan knows ALL about steps backwards that are supposed to take you forwards. He had begun to regain use of his arm before the shoulder surgery. Then he wasn't allowed to move it after the surgery at all. On the plus side, he can now move it quite a bit, what with all the bones being back in the right place now.

Be sure to bring comfy clothes to leave the hospital in, and maybe throw a bunch of pillows in the car.

It will be good. You are made to be bounding around happily, without worrying about when your leg is going to wear out or go funny on you! Hikes and rock climbing beckon.

I'm sorry about the early wakeup, though glad you'll be able to get it over with.

I do not like needles much, myself, but the last few times I've had blood drawn it's been surprisingly close to painless, so I hope your IV experience is similar.

And yes, loss of consciousness is weird, but my memories of being anaesthetized for surgery -- which all date back to adolescence -- are of being told to count backwards from ten, and thinking "this is never going to work, I am so wide awake here," and then waking up when it was all over. As bizarre as it is to lose an hour or two of one's life, it's painless, and I think it beats the alternative by a long shot. *g*

Will be thinking of you tomorrow! Call if you need anything at all.

Much luck and love to you and your knee.

Also, my recommended post-op protocol is to have someone(s) procure you a milkshake(s) to assist your recovery. (Says the lady whose pre-knee surgery surgery-type experiences all involved oral surgery.)
