we have the same problem here in germany. People get constant older and need more and longer medical care.

so there are not enough nurses available for the increasing need. but instead of making the profession more attractiv or even pay better all what can experts think is to "import" nurses from easterneurope or korea.

and in german-TV you will find easily find enough ignorant experts which wrote stupid books. Best way to avoid those is the quick use of the remote, but when you think of the viewers which believe any nonsense..............

I wish I could fall over in shock and appall that someone from the American public could possibly harbor such notions about nurses, but seeing as how it's the reality of the situation 99% of the time, I just can't feign surprise. Even after patients figure out we do more than give them their medication, they still have no clue of what the majority of our job is spent doing - which is, as you well know and I'm sorry to confirm, time spent documenting each and every last thing we've done so when the patient turns around and sues us we can still have some hope of retaining our licenses and income. I've never been so jaded about the healthcare system as when I became a nurse. Yes, there will always be a job, but it's backbreaking work and often thankless, not to mention it hardly pays the bills. Wouldn't it be nice if there were an easy solution! I totally should have written a book. Clearly if someone with no medical experience other than simply being a patient can do it, we can!

The funny thing about watching her during the segment was that she came across as really very shallow and stupid. Her initial "I never knew they did that" statement really betrayed an appalling lack of common knowledge. I'm sure an equivalent book by a nurse would be panned as self-promotion. I haven't read her book, nor likely will I. Whatever she "learned" I probably already knew, and she seemed so amazed but even little things. SIGH!
