I spend most of my writing hours on a desktop, but I write about 25% of my words on a laptop (in relatively short time, when I'm on a writers retreat). Aside from retreat, though, I do all my writing at home... Hope this helps!
I don't actually own a desk top. I own a netbook (dying) and Andrew's old Mac laptop that has no battery life so is essentially treated like a desktop because I have a separate monitor for it and it can't be left unplugged for more then 15 minutes before the battery goes poof.
I use pen and paper when I am out and about. My IPad doesn't do too badly in a pinch.

I have a desktop so old that the USB ports don't recognize any of my USB drives or my iPod. My laptop needs to be plugged in or the battery dies after 5-10 minutes (depending on what I'm doing). I love my netbook for portability but I can't write on it for long periods at a time.
