Now, if I recall correctly, you don't have to be American to curl for the U.S.A. -- at least not at the Worlds -- you just have to curl at an American rink -- which 6 monts at Lake Placid would qualify you for... (You don't have to be German to curl for Germany either, but that's not really relevant here.)
That's the big one to me. 6 months is probably not enough time to to learn to curl at an elite level (they appear to want curling newbies) and also too much time to take away from "real life" on a lark.
