Listening to the tape, I was struck by their announcement of the heart rates of the three astronauts, about ten minutes into their flight: Armstrong 110, Collins 100 or so, and Aldrin 88. I think it says a lot about the physical and mental strain that such highly-conditioned people could be running probably close to double their heart rates, while lying on their backs.
The more I learn about the whole Apollo program, the more impressed I am that they were able to pull it off. I really hope we do go back, though I'm pretty sure space exploration is not one of the priorities of the current administration, and the Chinese and Russian space programs have a long way to go from where they are now.
I'd love to see us get back there. Probably not this administration, but maybe if he gets a second term, he'd be able to get it started. Or, maybe the EU can join in and do it. *shrug* Dunno, but it'd be nice to see, sure enough.
