First of all, I am jealous you have a birdfeeder. I have one I have never used because there are stray cats in my neighborhood and I don't want to set a buffet for the wrong animals! :(

Second, OMG. Corn grows that fast?! /urban-naivity

Mine is up high, so the only cats that could get at it are mine. But they're too lazy.

Second - corn is a day-length plant, which means it can sense when the days are getting shorter and step-up its growth accordingly.

Third - OMG yes! I looked at it today and found the first buds growing in the nodes!
