Trip Part I

Nov 04, 2009 16:07

So last Saturday I arrived safely in SoCal after a grueling 13 hour flight and five hours of waiting for a plane in Chicago. Trip went pretty well and no one really flies on SNA so I had three seats to sprawl in the last bit which was nice. It's really pretty flying in during the night, lots of lights. Shiny!

We instantly packed and left on the ferry the next morning to Catalina Island. Which was gorgeous. We had a trip booked that would take us with a "private" jeep right into the conservancy part of the island. So when we show, we find out another couple signed up for it too. The good part; I'd get the required third seat I had to pay back. The bad; we got the worst Dramaqueem ever to ride with us. The driver instantly told my sister and me to take the two seats up front and made all indications that we shouldn't give them up. Not even when the woman started to pretend to hyperventilate getting into the truck when she wasn't happy with the seat arrangement.

A little while into the trip, we were up a moderate hill, she started moaning. The driver was all 'wtf' until she said that she was scared of heights... While we really weren't up that high and half a cow away from the cliff. Um... yes. Believe me when I say that was just the start since 1) we weren't even high yet and 2) she was a dramaqueen. She pretty much moaned and whined the entire frigging trip. The driver luckily ignored her moans of 'I am so unhappy here. I am so miserable'. (No really, I am quoting. I don't need to exaggerate anything.) The driver was awesome however as he ignored her and didn't let it ruin the trip for us. She must have been faking since sometimes we were at worse places and she forgot to moan. So yeah, I dunno. I'm not fond of heights, but the driver never did anythign dangerous. He did joyfully turn the jeep around when her husband lost his head and ignore her pleas of 'please don't turn at a cliff, I will buy him a new hat' to which he politely responded 'Can't have him go without his hat' and searched on.

So all in all, the tour was cool. The island was gorgeous and we've got a story to tell. They were idiots, asking questions that he just explained or saying how they'd hoped to get a tour of the city. Which um... don't take the in-land tour to see the wildlife if you only want to see the city. There's tours in a safe bus that doesn't go up high for those. Ugh.

And now I need to go meet up with my sis. So I shall tell you more about day two later.
