so - I save 2 years for a fence - a nice 6 foot privacy fence to keep the neighbors nosey nose and dogs out of my backyard. the goal - a nice english style garden and veggie patch with a wandering path to each section. then *zing* attack of the homeowners association. no privacy fencing is allowed, in order to maintain a uniform look and feel to ( Read more... )

Ah, America, land of the creative.
Christ, they actually expect you to have a "uniform look" to the rest of the neighborhood.
Are you also expected to mow your lawn at exactly the same time as everyone else?
Have the same car as everyone else?
Personally, I think if I lived in a neighborhood like that, I'd burn a circle into my backyard and dance around it nude. :o
Or not.. but it's tempting :o

Suburbs suck. I either want to live in an urban neighborhood or else way off in the woods.

So you've given up on the dream where bunches of ChaoticMUXers buy their own island and live there? ;)

next house, i will buy out in the country. i looked at houses outside town two years ago but

a. didn't have enough cash or
b. could afford it, but did not want to depend on a well for my water.

good move considering we have the worst drought in 100 years down here.

That would be okay, as long as once we got to the island I could live at a reasonable distance from the other islanders. If there were just one palm tree, I'd be up in the tree, or else I'd dig a cave.

If we went for the castle, I'd need a high lonely tower.

Try the cinnamon ones. :) Anyway, love to visit you in Asheville (and Rock Hill for that matter). I'm going to be in the US from the 12th of November till the 3rd of December. I detest the neighborhood rules junk, too. I think the people who think of that should be shot. :) Good to see you're surviving the hot summer. :)

Ah yes, the growing problem of condos, coops, and homeowners associations on individuality. Unfortunetly, the Homeowner's Association has a right to do this kind of thing. I live in one of those myself at the moment and can't STAND it. It's brought up all sorts of issues. That's why I can't wait to move into my own unrestricted piece of land!

well, i am in full-blown don quixote mode right now. there are 2 fences in the neighborhood that do not meet the standards. i will go to the homeowners assoc. meeting thursday and plead my case.

i am confident that the windmill will win again - but its the tilting at them which counts. *CLUNK*
