Do not pick up The Casual Vacancy if you can help it. I was able to finish The Hunger Games series. I could not finish Vacancy, perhaps because the events in it are far closer to current real life, and as such hit much harder.

I got through the series, but while I loved Katniss and Peeta (and a number of the other characters), I understood some of the things fianaclare said about dystopian fantasy in general, after she read the books.
Some of the moments the author depicts are achingly beautiful. Some of the others just ache / stab / burn / twist in a way which had me reading through my fingers. I will probably re-read parts of the books again (I re-read nearly everything), but not soon.
Another "delicate flower" here, at least in terms of literature.

If it didn't make me cry it wasn't worth my time.
I may be weird, but it's *such* a release. Like going to a sauna to sweat out the physical nasties, I depend on fictional angst to help me get rid of a bunch of my left over emotional nasties.
