Everything changed once Voldemort came back. Cedric was dead, the Ball was a distant memory and during the summer before her Sixth Year, Parvati Patil argued continuously with her parents and her sister. For the first time in her life, she was standing her ground. She was going back to Hogwarts regardless of what her parents or her sister thought.

Eventually, her reasoning worked (for once) and Padma and Parvati found themselves back on the train to Hogwarts. It was rare that Parvati out-thought her sister. It was virtually unheard of that she would outsmart her parents. In this case, she had and that pleased her.

As she was walking down the narrow passage outside of the compartments after visiting the loo, she stumbled as the train hit a bump on the tracks. A steadying hand caught her before she could tumble through an open doorway.

"Thank you." As she spoke, she looked at the hand on her arm. The black lacquer on blunt nails was a bit of a shock. Her gaze trailed up the arm until she saw a face that looked vaguely familiar underneath the pallid skin and the shock of black around the eyes.

Without speaking, her rescuer nodded before continuing down the passageway. Staring after him, she couldn't quite place who he was but she knew that she knew him. When he finally disappeared into a compartment further down the train, Parvati shook herself out of her stupor and went back to join Lavender in their compartment. The laughter and gossip that was so common between the two soon distracted her from the strange boy in the passageway.

It wasn't until he was sitting near the end of the Gryffindor table that she remembered him once more. As the Welcoming Feast continued unabated, she found herself staring more and more often down towards him. Every time he caught her staring, she'd blush and look away.

"What do you keep looking at, Parvati?" Lav's voice broke into her contemplations.

"Who's that?" Parvati subtly gestured towards the end of the table.

"That's Creepy Creevey. How could you not recognise him?" Lav giggled at Parvati's expense but Parvati merely stuck her tongue out in response before taking one last look down the table.
