I have been horrible about keeping up with this thing. I am driving to Los Angeles. I am in Arizona right now. I am camping with a straight guy who is kind of annoying at times. I would rather be traveling with a cute gay guy who I happened to be in love with. That would be amazing. if you know of any, let me know. Still having a hard time finding ( Read more... )

hmmm.

If I knew you well and we were friends, I'd be concerned and wonder what's going on.

As it is, I am curious. Why are you driving to LA without a place to live? And why are you camping with an annoying straight guy?

I appreciate your questions. I didn't say enough at all. I am on sabbatical this semester, and I wanted to spend the time in LA. So, I started looking for a place back in February. Because I still have to pay rent, etc. in Wooster, I could not afford to spend much on rent in LA. I found a very nice place, and visited in March. It seemed perfect, but a month later, the guy finally decided how much he wanted for rent. It was way out of my price range. I should add, it wasn't unreasonable for LA, just more than i could afford. So, in April, I started more seriously looking at Craig's List. Every couple of days, I would read the listings. I would usually find three to five roommate situations that were in decent areas and would meet my needs. I'd send emails to the various ads. Most would not respond at all. The few that did respond would stop responding as soon as I sent a picture. At first, I thought it was a matter of they just rented to someone else, and maybe I would have better luck if I waited until closer to my arrival date. But ( ... )

Holy cow. It takes balls to pick up and go to a city (LA, no less) without a place to stay and on a tight budget.

How do you Nevada? Nevada and Wyoming are two of the prettiest states ever. If you get a chance to take the northern route back to OH, I'd do it because WY is georgous.

Hope the rest of your sabbatical goes well. Are you going to travel anywhere else?

I loved Nevada. I was planning to take the northern route back, but now I am thinking I should retrace my steps on the way back because I have places to stay along the way. I'm seeing my last sitcom on Sept. 12, and I think I will leave directly after that.

I don't have any other travel planned. I'm going to buy a house--which is the other reason I have to come back to Ohio. I looked all summer long for a historic house that I liked. Seeing none, I gave up. Then, of course, the day before I leave Wooster, this house that I have loved since 2000 came onto the Realtor.com website. I called and took a tour, and promptly fell in love! So I guess I will spend the rest of my leave this semester painting and patching plaster. I have a ton of stuff to write, so I hope to get settled enough to get that stuff done as well.

Also, I really need to come to Pittsburgh and pick up some more furniture. Perhaps this time I won't get so horribly lost!
