Dec 31, 2013 22:47

What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
I taught an AP class AND I moved in with a roommate-lover.

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't think so, but it turns out that I did! I resolved to read more serious literature, and I went from reading no literary novels (omg) to three.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
We're not that close anymore, but Caitlin.

Did anyone close to you die?
No :)

What countries did you visit?
None, sadly.

What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
A stronger feeling of competence at my job.

What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I'm not sure that any were that memorable.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
This is pretty shallow, but I reached the last salary differential.

What was your biggest failure?
I still haven't mastered classroom management.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
No more than usual.

What was the best thing you bought?
I'm not sure, actually.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
Some of my AP students.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Michael Bloomberg? Vladimir Putin?

Where did most of your money go?
Rent, probably.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving in?

What song will always remind you of 2013?
Blurred Lines- Robin Thicke
Get Lucky- Daft Punk
Dance Apocalyptic- Janelle Monae

Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
Happier

ii. thinner or fatter?
Probably fatter, but not by too much

iii. richer or poorer?
Richer!

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing fiction.

What do you wish you'd done less of?
Stressing.

How will you be spending Christmas?
Ooof. I spent it with my mom and family (no Tao), but we got into a car accident on Christmas Eve. My third accident, and it was on the Taconic like all of them.

What was the best book you read?
This is tough. I think liked Code Name Verity best, but even though it took me forever to finish it, I really liked Rudyard Kipling's Kim.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Janelle Monae.

What did you want and get?
A mini-food processor? A roommate-boyfriend?

What did you want and not get?
I'm not sure, to be honest.

What was your favorite film of this year?
It's a toss up between The To-Do List and Bachelorette.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I celebrated with a few friends in a beer garden in Astoria. I was 29.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
"Immeasurably?" I can't think of anything.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Oh, I don't even know anymore.

What kept you sane?
Probably Tao. I feel like I'm getting better at things, though.

Who did you miss?
Oh- my father, as always.

Who was the best new person you met?
I didn't really meet anyone new that exciting, except maybe some people at my AP seminar. I have gotten closer with my co-teacher though.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013:
Let me get back to you on that one.
