DR SNAPE REVEALS THE SECRETS OF MUGGLE BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Glycerine

Glycerine or glycerol is a kind of sugar alcohol, transparent and odourless. It tastes sweet and has a texture similar to honey, only less sticky and more slippery.

Glycerol can be found in the human body. It is produced from the fat cells, released into the bloodstream, and then converted to glucose (i.e. sugar) to feed other body cells.

In personal care products, it is used as a lubricant and moisturiser. It works by actually drawing water molecules out of thin air and binding the water to your skin. This means it is a very powerful substance. If you apply it to the skin in a concentrated form, the same power that enables it to draw water out of thin air will draw water from your skin, and in the end it might completely dehydrate the skin. To avoid such an adverse effect, manufacturers usually make sure to dilute glycerine with water (a minimum of 2 to 3 parts of water to 1 part glycerine).

Glycerine is the main ingredient in glycerol soap, which is used by people with sensitive skin. Glycerine is also used in ointments and lotions for sensitive skin.

Dr Snape thinks this ingredient deserves an E (Exceeds Expectations)
It's a tried and true ingredient, one of the oldest-known moisturisers in the world. However, all that tradition also makes it somewhat boring.
