DR SNAPE REVEALS THE SECRETS OF MUGGLE BEAUTY PRODUCTS

Ethylhexyl stearate

Ethylhexyl stearate is basically a compound of alcohol and stearic acid.

Stearic acid itself is a substance that can be found in organic beings, including vegetables and Muggles humans. It is a so-called saturated fatty acid. Fatty acids are molecules which help the body break down proteins, and thus play an important part in digestion. Saturated fatty acids are fatty acids which contribute to higher cholesterol levels, so they are generally bad for your health. However, stearic acid is considered to be one of the mildest saturated fatty acids, and it is rarely incorporated into cholesterol.

In cosmetics, stearic acid can be used to give a harder texture to products (e.g. soaps), and ethylhexyl stearate can be used to provide a pearly effect in shampoos & such.

Dr Snape thinks this ingredient deserves a P (Poor)
Unimaginative and useless. Enough said.
