i'm assuming it's too late to withdraw from a class. i don't know about columbia but the writing/rhetoric class i'm taking right now is required to graduate. you should probably look into it and make sure it's not required, and if it is then talk to the professor, tell him/her you were having some trouble adjusting to things in chicago, or that you had personal issues or something. see if there is anything you can do to make up for it. if it's a required class you aren't going to want to have to deal with it later on because you fucked up freshman year.
my writing/rhetoric class sucks as well, i understand. it's stupid and not what i thought it would be. it sucks.
