 This is my review (of sorts) of The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls by Emilie Autumn

I would like to say that I was unable to relate to most of Emilie Autumn's harrowing tale of the time she spent in a mental institution for trying to kill herself and the parallel story that she created about a young girl in the Victorian era who was also sent ( Read more... )

All I can say is that I Thank you for sharing this with me. I know it must not have been easy but it earns you my respect. I dealt with a minor spell of depression 10 years ago. I did see a psychiatrist and she gave me some pills, but merely like 2 months after I threw them down the drain. Never again.

The past is now way behind you. You learned from it and now look at the extraordinary young woman you are becoming! :)

Unfortunately, I still don't own the book (and don't know when/if I'll be able to get it), but from all I've heard and from all I know, I started to respect EA even more than before, precisely for being so strong to confront the demons from her past. The same goes for you - congrats on being able to come to terms with it and face the horrors of the past.
