I was doing my vocabulary homework and this is what I came upon:

This definition kind of sounds like the person wants to defend the validity of surrealism, or a case of surrealism...

I think by using the words "artistic truth" it is trying to say that surrealism isn't necessarily just the OPPOSITE of reality, but rather creates its OWN reality that expresses an actual idea or an actual feeling. that it isn't completely bogus just because it doesn't conform to common standards. it still has a meaning and a purpose, but the process of arriving at that purpose was a-typical.
