No way. This is what you get when 3 inches of rain Central Park and a tornado touches down in Brooklyn all within the span of one hour, flooding nearly all of the subway stations and making commute impossible. Also add in grumpy New Yorkers who are doing their best to get to work (a pointless endeavor that most of them will give up on by the time they reach downtown and realize just how plain awful everything is...)

Sorry, forgot to add that this is not a usual occurrence by any stretch of the imagination. Manhattan was hit with three inches of rain today (all falling in an incredibly short burst of one freakin' hour) and there were reports of a tornado in Brooklyn. Basically, all the subway stations were flooded and commute was impossible (very few people were able to get to work on time, if at all) and the few precious lines that DID open (like the 7 above)...well, that's what people had to go through...

SO glad I wasn't in the city today...

Yeah, I was on a Q train like that this morning. I was one of the first to get on it, so I moved to the middle between the doors, and had plenty of space to myself. For some reason, they all wanted to crowd around the doors.

Maybe they have an irrational fear of being trapped inside the subway as it circles the city, round and round, never being able to escape...

(okay, so maybe this is my secret fear, circa age 8)

I see you guys haven't been on NY train at any heavy time. People stand by the doors to get out cause you can get stuck and miss your stop. And trust me it sucks.

I've been through that, too. But this was a long train ride. Not only were we sitting in the station for at least 10 minutes at Atlantic-Pacific, but we were going slowly over the bridge, which is already a 10+ minute ride on a normal day, and no one really started getting off until West 4th, with 5+ minute waits at Dekalb, Canal, and Broadway-Lafayette. Most people don't get off until midtown, anyway, so they all had time to spread out.
