Hm...okay. So let's say the person wasn't actively trying to hurt themselves, but had kind of checked out of the real world in favor of an imaginary friend...would the doctor be able to talk to the family member about what the patient was telling the doctor about said imaginary friend? Could they do it vague terms? Or if it related to the family member?

I think if it is relevant to treatment, especially if it is something like schizophrenia, if the doctor felt that the imaginary friend was perhaps a dangerous trend or encouraging a negative behavior in the patient (for instance, checking out of the real world or condoning negative behaviors or activities in the person), that it would be in the best interest of the patient to talk to the family member ( ... )
