gender awareness

(yet another message composed for another forum, but probably of interest to those of you reading here)I'm aware of my gender in mixed gender spaces because of the way most people interact with me, like a woman and not like just another human being. I think that has a lot to do with appearance. I went through a phase years ago where I cut my hair ( Read more... )

Interesting thought process. I too ponder gender, but for different reasons. I was brought up by a mother who studied gender roles, and ended up taking women's studies to realize that other people grow up with gender roles, I wasn't raised that way. This made it difficult to find a relationship with a man in VA, as I don't fall into typical gender roles very well. I've been married to both a man and a woman now, and in both cases we don't follow typical gender roles. There are men out there, mostly bi men I've found, who don't fall into the typical gender role distinction. So keep an open mind and an open heart, and it may just happen. In fact I had a girlfriend who identified as a lesbian for years, however after meeting and falling in love with my husband, she now identifies as bi, even if a very picky bi.

Well first let me just say that I love, love, love your posts.
They always make me think about my own life and my own Poly issues.

Secondly, I understand completely what you're saying.
In my first woman/woman relationship I played the femme, because I figured that was more socially acceptabe, not because that's actually who I am.
Now, with this realtionship (as complicated as it is), I'm much more butch and I'm comfortable with that.
I'm finally comfortable with who I am.
I realize that me being Poly Lesbian is different, I will never be with a man - I'm not open to that- but women allow you to be exactly who you are.
I notices just with my male friends if you're female most males expect you to be a certain way.

Anyways.... I love your posts. :)
