reflections on getting involved with a man

One of the more interesting things about getting involved with a man is that I am having to become conscious once again of what it means to me to be a woman, as I am never more aware of my femaleness than when I am around non female people. Meaning and purpose agwdevil October 13 2005, 12:29:36 UTC
And as to the other point, looking for meaning and purpose and perhaps finding it in self-sacrifice, there's something to that. Certainly when I became a father it changed my outlook on the meaning and purpose of life drastically.

When I saw CANDIDE as a young lad, I was quite scornful of the ending. I thought it was grown-up hooey. But the older I get the more it resonates for me. Candide is finally given the meaning of life (in the form of an old sage):

"What is the natural function of man? What was it in the Garden of Eden? Dig, spin, work without regret for yesterday or hope for tomorrow? For man, it is only work that makes life endurable."

I feel hopeless when idle, and filled with purpose when I'm occupied with something.
