For Tristan and Yvaine, discord and incessant bickering are the measure of their civility. Rightly so for Yvaine, since what other reaction could she have after being magically chained to a flying moron? However, one would think that after a week of altercation, both would have managed to simmer down to unspoken contempt. This was far from the case, if the ruckus hobbling its way to the clinic had anything to say about it.

To one Doctor Robert Chase, all hours have begun to seem like late ones. He's been running on a sleep deficit for several days now, not an uncommon situation in his line of work, but not an aspect of it he'd ever profess to enjoy. Chase likes sleep. Life has few simple pleasures, but the simple restorative properties of passing out with his head on his own pillow ranks highly among them ( ... )

Tristan may have been the mold for the original idiot, but it was far from his intention to cause the star to trip. It was a simple miscalculation of strength - a gesture gone awry, though such miscalculations were ones that usually resulted in black eyes and bruises. (Humphrey hadn't be lying when commenting on Tristan's nonexistent fencing prowess)

At least this meant that Loud One #1 and Loud One #2 could see the doctor faster. Why check in at the front desk when you could bump into the doctor instead? Far more efficient.

"That was not my fault. I- I didn't pull you that hard, Yvaine."

He was raised to be a gentleman, and Tristan was for the most part, minus certain instances in which expediency must be placed before propriety. Mostly in matters concerning a certain star and Victoria's hand in marriage. However, there was no reason not to help Yvaine up this time, especially when someone else was watching. So he extends a hand to her, raising an eyebrow as if completely oblivious of his fault.

Caspian arrives at the hospital without need for sitting down and calling Chase to come to him instead. All for the better, the last thing he wants is for anyone to think he is weakened by today's curse, physically or emotionally. Though the dirtied rag under his nose is quite undignified he does know it beats letting the blood further stain his clothing. He hasn't changed at all since leaving to patrol with Peter, therefore his arrival in the ER might be a little strange...to the mundanes of course, not to the staff. He is girt with sword, buckled by vambraces, and guarded under brigandine. The leather is dark enough to hide the staining under his collar. He would have taken it off but this curse gives him good reason to err on the side of caution. On top of the swelling that is his nose (not iced by the way lest he arrive a dripping mess as well) he has bruising to the cheek, eye, a cut to the mouth, and a left hand wrapped in stained cloth ( ... )

Chase would have been impressed if Caspian had arrived with an icepack from somewhere in the middle of the woods. He's been checking his PDA between rounds, unsure whether he made the right call letting an injured seventeen year old make his own way to the hospital. He hadn't presented as being in a greater state of shock than anyone might be if they'd just had their nose busted by their boyfriend, and there are other patients bleeding from places requiring more urgent attention ( ... )

The nurses in radiology are wearing 3-D specs to prevent accidental soul exposure; it's turning an ordinary PET scan into quite a trip. Chase has just stepped out of the department, aviators still neatly tucked into the top pocket of his labcoat and photographic slices of some poor cancerous bastard's chest cavity tucked into the file he needs to drop off at reception. There was a time when the last thing he ever wanted to do was set foot through hospital doors, too. Instead he let himself be packed off to med school.

Call it aversion therapy.

Anyway, back to that file. He hands it over Amory's shoulder, apparently taking no notice of his presence first in the line.

"Doctor House," he begins, eyeline not straying from the receptionist, though his tone hints at what he might have overheard, "will be in to yell about these not being done in about five minutes. Tell him he doesn't pay me to be a porter ( ... )

Of course, Chase would appear right then and there, as dictated by some natural law which said Amory would be plagued perpetually by the doctor. Or at least that's what he told himself. To Amory it was also ill luck, just as it had been ill luck to have ever dropped that glass on a public stage.

He's noticed the extra emphasis tacked onto the name, but prefers to match Chase, paying no attention to the hand above his shoulder or the presence behind his back. It's his usual mode of action anyway, and certainly was better than telling him to fuck off in front of the receptionist. (Even if it would have shown exactly why they should be kept apart.) Maybe he could get that pretty Indian doctor. He was pretty sure they hadn't met before ( ... )

Chase isn't laughing. Or, more accurately, he isn't laughing out loud. The shake in his shoulders and dip to his head - just far enough that blue eyes are obscured behind a yellow curtain - makes it very clear that he'd like to be. Of course, Amory isn't looking at him, but maybe there's a reflection in the window ahead. He steps forward again, resting a hand on Amory's shoulder in expectation of a flinch ( ... )

[Once at the clinic, Inara and Priestly are shown to a room. Inara is sitting on the paper covered table. Priestly poked and played with everything in the room for a little while before he settled down and fell asleep in a chair. Inara has a bit of paper from a magazine in her hands and she is currently attempting to fold a paper crane out of it. Not terribly successfully.]

[ooc: Priestly!mun may tag in at random just whenever. She wanted to be Inara's taxi service]

[Chase has made his way from one consulting clinic to the other to meet Inara. The extra legwork he's willing to put in with her case isn't altruism; she might be key to figuring out how to fix whatever the 'angel' did to Peter's eyes, and two birds with one stone sounds like a nice tally in his book.

He's pulling a trolley with him as he elbows the exam room door open, getting the brake on before turning to look at his patient... and whoever the hell that is with her. The guy looks like Hot Topic just vomited on him. Inara, meanwhile, turns out to be beautiful in person. The smile Chase flashes her is genuine.]

Origami? [He lays out a fresh pair of gloves, but doesn't put them on yet, offering out a hand to shake.] I'm Doctor Chase. Uh, is he a relative?

[Inara looks up when Dr. Chase comes in the room and puts aside the crane she's trying to fold.]

Yes, sometimes I enjoy it. Although I'm afraid I'm not very good at it in this condition.

[Her hands stay folded in her lap, not because she wouldn't shake Chase's hand but because she's unaware he's waiting for it]

He's a very dear friend. It's perfectly alright to examine me in front of him and discuss whatever we need to.

[Priestly is a deep sleeper. He huffs a little, and shifts in his tiny chair, teetering dangerously close to falling off of it. He mumbles quietly.]

The fucking raisins chase the walnuts. [Another huff.] It's fucking Vietnam all over again...

[He settles back into the chair, folding one leg under himself. He probably resembles a multicolored ghetto pretzel.]

Chase may start giving such exhibits names, the way they personify hurricanes and tropical storms. Coming down the hallway is fumble Rita soon to be followed by pratfall Stan. From where he's sitting on the couch, there's only one way of preventing these natural disasters.

Mockery.

"Why don't you try crawling? More things at head-height but you'll have less far to fall," he drawls, amusing himself if no one else. But he did get that cane for a reason, and it wasn't so his room mate could improve his half-arsed Chaplin routine. The doctor is on his feet a moment after his observation, heading over to guide Peter with a hand on his shoulder.

"You're holding it wrong."
