General
Canon Source: Kingdom Hearts
Canon Format: Multi-Platform Gaming Series
Character's Name: Ansem The not so Wise, alias Darkness in Zero (“DiZ”).
Character's Age: Ansem is one of many characters in KH not to get a canon age. But considering his participation in Birth By Sleep, reappearing in HK2 over ten years later, a personal estimation would leave him at around 55-57 years.
What form will your character's NV take?
Something to this style. Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:
In contrast to the other characters within his canon, Ansem shows no real interest in fighting. His abilities rely on his smarts and scientific knowledge to manipulate the situation into the most prime and opportune moment for himself. And there’s really no doubt that Ansem himself can be manipulative.
As stated, he has an excessive range of abilities within the scientific department, most clearly defined in his abilities as an inventor and computer programmer. Within Radiant Garden, he had undertaken the task of rewriting an advanced security system to make it hospitable for the people living within the town, in both monitoring and security purposes. Later on, he also replicates Twilight Town into a complete, digitized code, proving to have the ability once again to place people within data and even to rewrite not only their memories, but aspects of their personality.
The final weapon of choice also revolves around circumventing hearts into data, although Ansem himself states that the mystery of the heart is really too great for the science and knowledge he has at hand. It comes to be his undoing, with the added bonus of placing Riku back into his rightful form once it explodes.
Like anyone who attempts to wield the force of darkness, Ansem has a few useful abilities in regards to hiding himself and his identity. When taking upon himself the persona of DiZ, Ansem uses his clothing to hold the darkness, causing his appearance to change into something quite different from the norm. Atop this, he holds the ability to create shields from the darkness, which negate attacks from bother Riku in Castle Oblivion, and later on, Axel’s chakrams in the digital Twilight Town.
He’s also kind of wise.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them?
I’d say he’s got enough going for him in that department without adding on any super human abilities.
Weapons:
Ansem doesn’t appear to have any weapons. Even the darkness he wields is heavily based upon protection and illusion.
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History:
We are all waiting for our birth by sleep; even me. Even you. Point in Canon:
Canonly, Ansem gets up to a lot more behind the scenes than on screen. The time that I’d like to take him from is Sora’s first time in Twilight Town, right after Day 6 of Roxas’ time in the Digital Twilight Town. It’s at this stage, with Sora proving to be a boy who simply can’t be used and the regret of watching Riku sacrifice his very being for his friend, that Ansem is in the most prime position for character development. At this time, he will be realizing how fruitless his plans truly are, and beginning to devise a new scheme to stop the Organization in their tracks…
Character Personality:
Ansem is a man with multiple facets, and it becomes quite clear from the start of his story that not all of these facets are good. The wisdom and sage like qualities of his title paved way to both pride and vanity, and in turn a greed for revenge. Revenge for himself, rather than the people he had lost and the world he had failed to protect.
But to say that Ansem does not possess the qualities of a good man would be folly. Originally, he had been the well respected leader of Radiant Garden; which goes to show that his title of ‘The Wise’ was not something that had simply generated out of nowhere. Ansem has shown all the aspects one would expect of a leader- calm sensibilities and rationality that is tempered with a need to help others. When you hear of Ansem, you may essentially think “The Santa who cured cancer” and you’d have him about right.
At least, to begin with.
At the canon point that Ansem is pulled into Siren’s Port, the main characteristic shining through is bitterness. Ansem is a man who has had the entirety of his life taken from him; right down to his very name. Ten years is certainly enough time to allow yourself to wallow in the betrayal of those closest to you, and Ansem is certainly no exception.
Part of Ansem’s flaws is his inability to differentiate, which leaves himself open to being racist in some aspects. The betrayal by his inner circle- his apprentices and guards- is something that he obsesses over to an unhealthy level; with ten years to think it over constantly, it goes from being the fault of Xehanort to the fault of all Nobodies- some of which who have no direct association with Ansem himself.
Ansem allows himself to maintain a cold outlook towards the rest of the world because of this. A clear example would be when Roxas is brought in by Riku to be placed into the digital Twilight Town. When Riku comments upon how bleak his future appears, his reply is concise and to the point. “Such is the fate of a Nobody”. Ansem allows himself to look over important details to get what he wants, with the added assumption that his goals are what is best for the worlds. He places himself heavily on the framework of darkness during this time, showing that even the best men can be swayed in impossible situations.
Becoming such a painfully flawed man is something he can excuse with the name DiZ-if he isn’t Ansem, then he is not the man so many people have looked up to in the past. DiZ is a name he explains within the secret reports in Kingdom Hearts 2, meaning Darkness in Zero. Taking on a new identity allows for a new definition in his character; a face to fall behind whilst doing deeds that he would never be capable of undertaking as Ansem the Wise. He reveals himself to no one, admitting later on that this is due to the shame he feels at seeking revenge so blindly.
With all this in stock, you would assume that Ansem is someone irredeemable; however that is not the case. Ansem shows time and time again that past the cold exterior is a heavy weight of guilt for how his own actions have affected others; namely Riku. He confesses to King Mickey in The World That Never Was that after seeing how Riku had given all of himself for his friend, his heart was then burdened with guilt. It’s clear that by the time Sora awakens, Ansem’s plans are already unravelling around him.
However, he remains steadfast in his belief that the Organization-that Xehanort must be stopped. “I am but a servant of the world.” Ansem does inevitably put others before himself; realizing the futility of his actions when faced with the sacrifices Riku has made, Ansem can no longer continue down the path he has. An utterly dramatic transformation takes place during the timeframe given by Kingdom Hearts 2, which makes Ansem both a valuable asset and a danger.
His relationships with others when put to the test are varied and often open ended. Those who had lived in Radiant Garden during the peaceful stage in which Ansem ruled are firmly within the belief of Ansem’s wisdom, as shown by Aerith in the original Kingdom Hearts . It’s to these people that he owes the most answers towards, although closer and less obscure relationships are shown within the game.
Ansem is known to have a great comradeship with Mickey himself, the King of Disney Castle and keyblade wielder who first ventured to his world. There are many references within the games to Ansem’s time spent with Mickey; speaking with him is what brings Ansem to the conclusion that his experiments into the heart must stop, at a time when it is far too late.
Ansem’s partnership with Riku is also one that is very important to Ansem’s development, the two working together and parting ways once Sora has awakened. Riku’s determination and loyalty is what begins to thaw Ansem’s façade as DiZ, essentially causing him to take stock in his actions and admit defeat when it comes his way, at least in his original plans. Riku is someone Ansem sees as holding a great burden, and a person he has come to highly respect. His sacrifices teach an old dog new tricks, or at the very least, provide an opportunity for a change of heart.
What we come to see throughout the games is that Ansem is intensely scarred at heart. He’s seen worlds fall, felt the harsh sting of betrayal and worst of all has played his own part as the villain. There’s still opportunity there for him to do so again, but so long as he retains the help and guidance of those around him that he respects, Ansem may find more stable ground in Siren’s Port than within his own canon universe.
Character Plans:
A lot of what Ansem will and won’t do is up in the air at the moment, due to character development. As previously stated, he’s in a prime position for character development- good and bad, and there’s a lot of bad at Siren’s Pull to help him along. There’s been talk with Sora, Roxas, and Xion’s muns in regards to an attempt at forcefully merging them, but that really depends on the direction Ansem paves for himself.
Another additional plan, which is also optional- due to his scientific excellence, atop his usual status of 'The Boss', Ansem is highly prepared to work himself into a high position in one of the two major pieces of the board. How he goes about this and where he will get to is again up to his development-and also the mods.

With a pull of such magnitude, it’s easy to conclude that only the very best; and the very worst would be taken from their worlds.
[The NV is kept averted, upon the skyline, rather than the speaker. The visage of the man speaking is kept safe for now, but the voice is aged and distinct.]
And those in-between? May find their futures full of distinction beyond their wildest imagination. The only question that remains is for which side…
And what to do now?
[A low, humoured chuckle, tainted faintly with something slightly…darker in nature. The image weaves up and down, caught in the motion of the man’s footsteps.]
Further investigation into this world’s history aside, I could always find some sea salt ice cream. Who knows; this world may have more than one curiosity down it’s darkened alleyways.
[There’s a long pause, in which it appears that the speaker is done with his ponderings. He reaches the end of one street before pausing, as if struck with a sudden thought.]
For those who may wish to seek me out, you need only to call.
[Whether he’ll answer or not is really up to debate.]

Degradation and despair. There was an air to the city, one of caution and restraint, run down streets and alleys leading to ruined and empty areas where life had once been vibrant and whole. He was reminded quite sharply of another city. Ruined and empty in the last of it’s days; Ansem pondered the significance of this as he calmly strolled through both bustling streets and tarnished ghettos. Perhaps this was the price one was to pay, whilst walking the road to retribution.
It was a clear enough sign that his plans were set to fail, at the very least. Sora was awake and running rampant through the worlds, with no guidance through the rings set up for him. All was lost on that account, which simply lead to the conclusion that there was more to this than what he had seen so far. The more he saw of Siren’s Port, the more he understood-the very nature of this city called to the most depraved beings, to the lightest of heart. This was a war ground, torn between politics, science and human barbarism that had not existed in Radiant Garden for decades after he had come to power.
They would come here, whether the Organization had already found this world or not. For each member under the black cloak, ten beings as malevolent and immoral lay in waiting. The Pull would be too much for them, in the end.
A tsk, and Ansem shakes his head. A young woman passing by gives him a dirty look for the gesture, but he takes no notice. In this moment, he cannot let the outside world take too much prevalence over his thoughts. As a servant of the world-be it this or any other-he would seek out the scourge he knew best, and cut it off at it’s very core.
It was only right.
