Fascinating to read, when I was younger I had a penpal who was from Bilbao, and supported her local team. We used to takl via letters for years about our sharred passion for football.

Not idealism no. If clubs are supposed to be mini versions of countries then set it out in the rules. If not then accept that it's fine for clubs to have fans and players from all over the world. And think of the disadvantages of the mini-country system, two great players in the same position from the same area, can't accomodate both, so at least one can't achieve his full potential due to lack of game time available, swings and roundabouts.
