Weekend was spent staying in and typing for the most part. And there was sleeping. I watched the Addams Family, a lot. I have 7 episodes left. I figure I'll put off buying volume 3 (bargain pack contained volumes 1 and 2). Eventually, though, I'll pick it up. They are as entertaining as I remember, and I always loved John ( Read more... )

Finished Firefly/Serenity. Still don't particularly like westerns or scifi with a constantly grimey atmosphere, but I can see why people liked the story (though I was also wary of another girl-savior from Joss Whedon).

People keep telling me that I have to love Firefly because it's some sort of Messiah SciFi series, but having watched a few episodes, I'm really not that impressed. It's an okay show, that's about it. :\

On the other hand, I still haven't quite forgiven Whedon for Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Episodes worth watching out of the 15 + the movie "Our Mrs. Reynolds," "Trash," and "Ariel." The first two are cons, and I like good cons. Ariel is one that delves into what the hell is up with River and has a doublecross and some actual moments of suspense.

Actually, I didn't like Buffy at all, in any season. >.> The movie was entertaining, though.

toffeefox has been watching Dollhouse on hulu.com, I'll have to ask him what he thinks.

What didn't you like about Buffy? Just makes me curious. I did like the movie as well as a "cult" classic.

I will be curious about Dollhouse. Fenris has said "eh" after the pilot. To me, the premise sounds good, but I'm not sure about a long term execution of it.

Buffy was the girl savior, which is a theme that pretty much runs through the series (is even the point of the series). It worked. Firefly bothered me because River felt slapped on and, because she was connected in major ways to the larger plot, she felt larger than the main protag (Mal) or any of the crew. And the posing at the end of Serenity irritated me for the reasons already mentioned (copy of Buffy). I wanted to see something that wasn't Buffy, and what I got was more Buffy plus some other stuff.

He now seems to be following the same route with Dollhouse, which says to me he needs to try out some new types of main characters.
