Banned for playing WoW via Linux...?!
I've made this entry public, as it was linked over at the Transgaming forums, so people can read it.
Holy crap, my friend was banned last night for using "third-party software", along with a SLEW of other Linux users who play WoW. WTF?!
This is the email he sent me last night:

reopened under any circumstances. The recurring subscription on the
account has been disabled to prevent further charges.

I'm using fedora core 4, with cedega. No mods or addons of any kind ever. I sent an email to Blizzard
telling them they are retards since i don't use any mods or addons of any kind but it looks like my wow days are done.
Blizzard can shove it all up their asses."
Anyone else get hit? This is complete and total crap. He has 2 60s and have been PvPing non-stop to try to get rank 10 on his toon before the Honor System changes hit, and this is how he gets repaid? BS. If Blizz would just actually release a stupid Linux version of the game, there wouldn't be a problem.
And before anyone asks, this guy is my best friend, I've known him for 5 years, and he uses NO mods and NO hacks. No add-ons whatsoever. For whatever reason, Blizzard is going after Cedega users, it appears. And I can't even log in to the forums to get someone to investigate his account closure. :(

EDIT: Well, I was finally able to log in to the forums, but I'm not seeing anything comforting there. Drysc says that there's no way that an operating system could give a false positive. So even though I know for a fact that Pete has never used any hacks, mods, add-ons or even custom UIs, I seriously don't think there's a way to prove it to Blizz.

This totally sucks. Pete is a Linux nut. Seriously. He's a self-taught Linux guy; he was one of the beta tester for the Linux operating system on the PS2 when the network adapter first came out, and he used that for his internet and email. Then he built his own PC from scratch and has always run one version or another of Linux on it, it's happily never been tainted in any way by Windows. And he's gone through hours of crap to get WoW functioning properly, has been playing happily for almost 2 years now, and to have this happen.... it sucks. Seriously.
