Otacon hadn't expected the knock on the door. As far as he knew, few people even knew where they lived. Rising from his chair, he called out carefully.

"Just a minute!"

But who would be knocking on their door? Glancing around the room, he spotted a rather heavy book and picked it up. If it was someone hostile, he could just throw it at their head and slam the door shut again. Holding it behind his back with one hand, he opened the door.

"...Hello, Hal." Liquid remarked with a slightly awkward smirk as the door opened. He might just have been holding something behind his back as well--it was just a little less potentially painful.

He sheepishly sets the book aside, giving Liquid a smile.

"Why are you knocking?", he wondered in confusion.

"I wanted to do this the correct way." Liquid admitted. The former soldier brought his hand out from behind his back, producing a small red rose with the thorns cut off.

"...here." It was a symbolic sort of thing, ina weird way--even now Liquid had his share of thorns, but that wasn't something he'd ever display around Otacon.

"Hal," Liquid asked, pushing the sunglasses up to act as more of a headband, "would you do me the distinct honor of accompanying me for dinner tonight?"
