L
There are few people Mello respects more than L. In fact there's only one in the universe and that is Jesus Christ. Mello has been trained since the age of four to envy and nearly worship L and to become more than L to become better than him. To quote Mello's own writing every Wammy Kid wanted to "step over him" but more importantly they wanted to "step on him." None of L's trained Successors ever worked with the detective and very few ever even met him. Mello was one of the distinguished few. Mello may be the only person L willingly met (besides Watari, his "butler" and handler) after assuming the title of L.
Like most Wammy Kids Mello is obsessed with L. He admires him, he worships him, he's jealous of him, he wants to beat him.
Professionally:
|| As I said, L is his hero. Professionally Mello wants to be L, just like L, better than L.
Personally:
|| If Mello knew L solely as L Lawliett they would not get along. L is too detached and strange. But because he's L he can do no wrong in Mello's eyes.
Gut reaction:
|| Mello doesn't really have a gut reaction about L. He's too well trained.
Sheldon Sands
Mello doesn't get along with Sheldon, they are both too intense and moody. Also, Mello has a soft spot for the FBI because of Naomi Misora so since Sheldon is CIA Mello has a distinct dislike for him.
Professionally:
|| CIA.
Personally:
|| They're too bullheaded and, if there's anyone brisker and ruder than Mello it's Sheldon.
Gut Reaction:
|| Fuck 'im.
Matt
Matt is Mello's everything. They've known each other since they were kids (when they were both seven.) Mello met Matt when Matt came to Wammy's House, seized after his father killed himself. Mello had been in Wammy's House for two years at that point, still struggling to learn English without an accent and keep up with his lessons. Mello prayed to God for a friend and, a day later, Matt came. They were instantly friends (as Mello would have it no other way), inseparable from the day they met. As they got older they discovered that their feelings ran far deeper than just friendship. Mello depends on Matt, he's his driving force, his rock, his anchor. Mello is afraid to leave the Manor because he doesn't want to go back to a world where Matt is already dead.
Professionally:
|| Matt can do no wrong
Personally:
|| See above.
Gut Reaction:
|| See above.
Black Jack
Black Jack and Mello met on the beach, when they both saw each other's scars. Mello is ambivalent when faced with other people's scars and other disfigurements. It just reminds him of his own. They got along then and later Black Jack helped Matt after his detention. Black Jack also helped Keiichi after Yoh attacked him, which just puts him higher in Mello's book. Mello also went to Black Jack's aid when Kuja attacked him. Black Jack also gave him a pain killer while he was hurt in Pripyat.
Professionally:
|| Having a doctor at the Manor is very important and Black Jack was the first one they had.
Personally:
|| Black Jack is quiet, polite, but acts based on his morals (at least as far as Mello can tell) so thus far he pretty much likes him.
Gut Reaction:
|| N/A
Eddie Riggs
Mello likes Eddie, he thinks Eddie is mostly good and mostly honest. Mello thinks the Roadie is a little stupid and naïve...no, naïve is not the right word. He thinks Eddie is too cocksure. He kind of views Eddie as a dog, he didn't like letting Eddie continue to cut class without saying anything but he didn't stop him to see what would happen. He hoped it was a move that L would have made, testing the enemy. Eddie was one of the few who understood why Mello did what he did with Keiichi.
Professional:
|| He's a Roadie, which Mello thinks is pretty ridiculous but as a witness/part of the investigation he is pretty useful.
Personally:
|| Eddie's a good guy, but Mello doesn't know if he could take him for too long.
Gut Reaction:
|| Mostly harmless
Agatsuma Soubi
That. Asshole.
Professionally:
|| Too stubborn to be useful
Personally:
|| They are way too similar. Actually, Soubi might be even more of an asshole than Mello.
Gut Reaction:
|| If they are ever in mortal danger, leave him to die.
Miria Harvent
Ditz.
Professionally:
|| Easy to use.
Personally:
|| Oh God stop.
Gut Reaction:
|| Ditz.
Sohma Hatori
Again, Mello respects doctors. Also, Hatori is brisk and to the point. He's politer than Mello, which Mello can respect although Mello can find politeness tiring. Hatori knows exactly when to stay out of things and when to get into them for the most part. He might be a little too aloof for Mello's taste sometimes, where as Black Jack is more eager to get involved. Time will tell.
Professionally:
|| He's professional and helpful.
Personally:
|| It's that aloofness thing.
Gut Reaction:
|| N/A
Sebastian Michaelis
There is nothing he likes or trusts about Sebastian. He also believes that Sebastian is a Shinigami. He does not eat any of Sebastian's food and sticks to what the house prepares.
Professionally:
|| Doesn't trust a thing that he says.
Personally:
|| No.
Gut Reaction:
|| Hated him from day one.
Ichabod Crane
Naïve, stupid, religion hating, helpless. He's not a fan. Although Mello does like baiting him. However, after Mello completely destroyed Elizabeth and him during the Spell Battle tournament animosity has been running high between the two (Mello used the information Ichabod had given him about his father to terrify Ichabod.) He also took Elizabeth into custody after Ichabod and she killed their Mary Sues. Although, on the plus side, he no longer thinks Ichabod's a coward :Db
Professionally:
|| Mello does know how Ichabod can possibly call himself a constable. Although he does admire the fact that Ichabod integrates and uses science in his investigations, especially considering his time period.
Personally:
|| Insufferable
Gut Reaction:
|| Coward.
Emmett Honeycutt
Emmett is exactly the kind of gay guy Mello hates. Being homosexual himself and in many ways the opposite of the stereotype Mello cannot stand the flamboyant girly gay guy types, even for the things that Mello has in common with them (like a love of leather and other fashion.) So Emmett was kind of doomed from the start. Mello also finds Emmett insufferably loud and stupid.
Professionally:
|| Well, one positive, Emmett would be easy to interrogate.
Personally:
|| Mello would probably kill himself rather than hang out with Emmett.
Gut Reaction:
|| STFU, you friggin' gaywad.
Willy Wonka
He's a creeper but he also makes chocolate.
Professionally:
|| Mello wouldn't trust any of this guy's reactions or responses.
Personally:
|| He's creepy and immature...but he makes chocolate.
Gut Reaction:
|| If he didn't make chocolate, Mello would kill him.
Iroh
Iroh is eager to help and kind, Mello can only stand those people for so long. Iroh also defended Mello and what happened with Keiichi. He trusts Iroh.
Professionally:
|| Eager to help, that's all Mello needs.
Personally:
|| But all that optimism is tiring.
Gut Reaction:
|| Yeah, see above.
Katheryn Howard
Mello really pities her because he knows her fate.
Professional:
|| He hasn't had to work with her yet and he's kind of hoping he won't have to. She doesn't seem that smart to him.
Personality:
|| Mello's opinions are tinged by his sympathy for her, but she is pretty annoying. He'd hate her more if she wasn't doomed to die.
Gut Reaction:
|| See above.
Yoh and Minatsuki Takami
Mello sees that the Takami siblings act as a unit and he sees that they're fucking crazy (or at least extremely violent.) He doesn't trust them and he's keeping an eye on them. Minatsuki is the real problem. She was there when Keiichi was killed, in fact she was, according to Keiichi, the reason he attacked. She then continued to bait Mello. And she called him Mels.
Professionally:
|| Lies.
Personally:
|| Fakes.
Gut Reaction:
|| Shoot first ask questions later.
Finnian
He's pretty sure that Finny is retarded.
Professionally:
|| He'll answer Mello's questions and ask none in return. Mello is sure of it.
Personality:
|| Again, Finny's stupid.
Gut Reaction:
|| The stupidity thing is bringing him down.
Elizabeth Tudor
Mello is pretty fascinated by these royals. In terms of Elizabeth he's choosing to stay objective as he finds her interesting but never had a real historical opinion of her. Well, no, he likes her a lot, besides the Catholic burning thing of course. He finds her reign fascinating, he thinks that she was mostly just and compared to many royals she actually ruled well, again, forgetting the Catholic thing. He thinks the Tudors are an interesting line and Liz is the crowning achievement of that line. But in terms of personality he's curious but unsure. It's like watching history unfold. Although, he'll be keeping his Rosary under wraps.
More recently Mello held Elizabeth after she and Ichabod killed their Sues. He kept her tied up for hours while interrogating her. Then he threw her in a prison cell, which he eventually joined her in after killing Keiichi.
Professionally:
|| So far so good
Personally:
|| Wait and see.
Gut Reaction:
|| This should be really interesting.
Heather Morris
Stop. Hitting. On. Matt. Stop acting like you're so smart and so grown up. Stop being "immature." Stop being pretty much a sassy horror game female version of Mello. However, she was nice to him when he was in horrible pain during the Pripyat snow storm and brought him chocolate.
Professionally:
|| Gawd, Heather, he's trying to help. Being mostly obstinate is not helping him.
Personality:
|| Too emotional and head strong. They butt heads.
Gut Reaction:
|| Stop hitting on Matt, bitch.
Temperance "Bones" Brennan
He admires her spirit and her gumption. In some ways she reminds him of a less socially functional Naomi Misora...or sort of a cross between L (for personality) and Misora (for her determination and work effort.) And although Bones is not actually with the FBI her affiliation with it is comforting to Mello. It's also sort of familiar, she comes from a world where the FBI exists, this is a good thing.
After she was given Kuja's Mary Sue's remains Mello sat with her during the "autopsy." They talked about "magic" and about how he hates it as much as she does.
Professionally:
|| She's used to working with cops. Hopefully.
Personally:
|| He's not sure what to think of her, but he likes her. He thinks.
Gut Reaction:
|| Immediately likes FBI, although she claims that she is not part of the FBI.
Severus Snape
Pain in the ass. There seems to be a lot of these.
Professionally:
|| Yes, he eventually helped but he's a pain.
Personally
|| Bitch.
Gut Reaction:
|| The less contact they have the better.
Lelouch Lamperouge
Mello hates him. He's an entitled little bitch, in Mello's opinion. Also Lulu is trying to take over Mello's job of investigating. And he doesn't trust Lelouch's judgment or work. In other words because he's not a professional he's not on the investigation.
Professionally:
|| Unhelpful and not useful.
Personally:
|| No.
Gut Reaction:
|| Pain in the ass is going to be a problem.
Keiichi Maebara
Stupid and being treated the sucker. Mello did see all the twitching and clawing and does believe that Keiichi has some sort of mental illness, which has yet to be ID'd. Which is bothering Mello since he has a specialty in mental illness (one of a few) and he doesn't know what this is. But, he still thinks he's being played by Minatsuki and that Yoh might kill him.
Actually, it was Mello who ended up killing him. Keiichi was the first one at the Manor to die. Mello still feels he did what he had to. Keiichi was level five and attacked Mello put a bullet in his forehead. Keiichi doesn't remember much of the incident.
Professionally:
|| Hasn't been of use yet but will probably be cooperative. Hopefully. If Mello phrases it correctly.
Personally:
|| Possibly dangerous, possibly mentally ill, probably stupid.
Gut Reaction:
|| Was green but then he did that twitching screaming thing.
Elphaba Thorpp
So far so good. She's spunky enough that Mello likes her but she's cooperated thus far. In other words, Mello likes her so far.
Professionally:
|| Helped so far.
Personally:
|| Likes her.
Gut Reaction:
|| Ditto.
Louis
He was the first to go missing, so Mello has been privately thinking this over. Too bad, he did like him.
Professionally:
|| Not enough time.
Personally:
|| Not enough time.
Gut Reaction:
|| Not enough time.
Meirin
Annoying.
Professionally:
|| Possibly useful.
Personally:
|| Stupid and useless
Gut Reaction:
|| Might be more than she seems.
Aoko Nakamori
Naïve, spunky, and most of all useful. A cop's daughter, inside enough to cooperate but not so much inside that she won't listen. Although she's so opinionated Mello and she might eventually butt heads.
Professionally:
|| Useful but opinionated
Personally:
|| Preeeetty much the same.
Gut Reaction:
|| She's a good kid.
Henry Tudor
Totally based history. He admires Henry's accomplishments but not his character.
Professionally:
|| Going to be difficult, entitled bastard.
Personally:
|| History. Literal history.
Gut Reaction:
|| Yeah, Mello's read too many text books.
Robin Sena
He met Robin in a church where she was praying. She got out of Mello that he's a Catholic. Which means she knows more about Mello than Mello knows about her which is a big no-no. He wants to nose around in her business about more.
Professionally:
|| She's quiet and avoids answering questions.
Personally:
|| She's quiet and while she avoids answering questions she's not rude or obnoxious.
Gut Reaction:
|| She's so avoidant and quiet she's hard for him to get a reading. However because he's a paranoid freak something about her rubs him the wrong way.
Conan Edogawa
Mello knows there's more to him than he's letting on and it's annoying him that he can't crack Conan and that Conan is trying to get the better of him.
Professionally:
|| He won't cooperate if he doesn't want to, Mello's sure of this.
Personally:
|| Mello hates kids, even weird ones.
Gut Reaction:
|| Not going to be helpful and going to be very, very annoying.
Misa Amane
God-fucking-damn it! She just had to show up, didn't she?!
Professionally:
|| She's a Kira and an idiot, nothing else needed.
Personally:
|| See above.
Gut Reaction:
|| See above
Renge Hoshakuji
If he hears the phrase "man passion" again he will scream.
Professionally:
|| She'll tell him what he wants to know in exchange for very little.
Personally:
|| Oh God she's annoying.
Gut Reaction:
|| Obnoxious but probably easy to use.
Ciel Phantomhive
Ciel owns Sebastian so he knows exactly what Sebastian is. However he will not help Mello or even answer Mello in any way. His refusal to help is making Mello feel like a fool.
Professionally:
|| Too damn smart and sneaky. Mello has yet to figure out how to get information out of him.
Personally:
|| Obnoxious little rich brat.
Gut Reaction:
|| Smug SOB >B(
Ienzo
Little bastard gives him the creeps and reminds him waaaaay too much of Near, just the way he looks at people and stays quiet and blank.
Professionally:
|| Just because he reminds him of Near
Personally:
|| See above
Gut Reaction:
|| Gives him the creeps.
Jack Sparrow
Weirdo, Mello's not sure what to think of him beyond that. He's got some wisdom, about him and a lot of experience but he's such a freaking crazy person it's hard to separate it.
Professionally:
|| Easy to question but will his answers be worth anything?
Personally:
|| He's not entirely sure what to make of him although he doesn't want to spend a lot of time with him.
Gut Reaction:
|| He's just...odd. And smelly.
Beyond Birthday (B)
Oh God. B. He pities him, he hates him, he's afraid of him, he feels a weird kinship with him. B is not a person he wanted to meet again. Just seeing him makes Mello feel vaguely ill.
Professionally:
|| There is nothing good about B.
Personally:
|| See above
Gut Reaction:
|| See above.
Jack Mercer
No real opinion on him yet. Thus far he thinks he's pretty obnoxious.
Professionally:
|| Thinks he's just an obnoxious kid, but he'll answer Mello's questions.
Personally:
|| Annoying kid.
Gut Reaction:
|| compared to some of the assholes around her, Jack's nothing.
The Doctor
He was an asshole to Mello, he didn't understand Mello's motives and basically pulled the whole "humans are animals" thing, or rather humans are animals sometimes and Mello is the perfect example of human failing, that humanity can be so much better than the likes of Mello. Mello took grave offense to this, he knows he's scum but he hates being reminded of it, especially by the Doctor who has this "outsider's perspective." He hates the Doctor's holier-than-thou personality, it makes him feel sick.
Professionally:
|| Fuck him.
Personally:
|| Mello just wants to avoid all contact with him.
Gut Reaction:
|| same as both above.
Kuja
Evil bullying bastard.
Professionally:
|| He'd never help and is more likely to just cause problems.
Personally:
|| Bullying monster.
Gut Reaction:
|| Needs to be stopped or at the very least monitored.
