Back, finally, to answer your first question.
My favorite activities have nothing to do with kink at all. I love to cook, to take walks in the city and in the woods, to read, to listen to music (live and recorded), to polish my boots (again, not for kinky reasons), to spend time with my godfather and his wife, to play video games, and to write. I love to learn, and being in stimulating discourse within my own brain and with others is another pleasure. I also love to travel, especially when I can explore the culture of the area I'm visiting.
One of my favorite cuisines is Indian (that is to say, from the country India, not Native American). I first tried my hand at preparing Indian food after reading Madhur Jaffrey's "Introduction to Indian Cookery." I'm not absolutely certain, but I believe the first recipe I tried was for "sour chickpeas." It was delicious! I learned some cooking techniques, especially some uniquely Indian methods for the use of spices, that I continue to use today. Even when I'm not preparing Indian food, I find myself using techniques I learned from that cookbook. If you enjoy Indian food and have any inclination to cook, I have to recommend that book. I also have Jaffrey's Vegetarian Cookery from the East (or whatever the official title is!), and I highly recommend that book as well. Other favorites to prepare are cornbread and other quick breads, soups, beans and peas, whole grains, and more. I was vegetarian for about two and a half years, and I am ever grateful for what I learned about whole foods cookery during that time.
Polishing boots. Well, like I said, it's not for kink purposes, but for the utter satisfaction that comes from seeing the direct results of one's own efforts. I love to condition the leather and build the shine, to feel the suppleness I'm encouraging in the leather and to glory in the crisp, pristine glow of well-polished smooth leather. I learned to polish boots from my father, a former military man and dapper ladykiller with a broad selection of Stacy Adams footwear. I haven't made time in a while now to tend to my boots, but writing about it reminds me of the simple pleasure and focus that polishing gives me. I'll need to make time for some leather care soon.
Video games are a real indulgence for me. I most enjoy role-playing adventures and solve-as-you-play games, and the nature of those kinds of games naturally encourage hours and hours of game play. I haven't played a game system in over a year, it seems, mostly because I am very aware of how consuming they can be for me! Still, to veg out and really work through a game would be so much fun right now!
I've written about volksmarching, traveling, nature, spirituality, and the like in this journal. Those are strong and enduring interests for me. I've traveled recently and it's rekindled a desire to travel more often. I also have plans to start volksmarching on the weekends as soon as I make some changes in my worklife that ensure I have weekends off.
Thanks for asking. While I'm sure you might have meant something more salacious, these are more like my real and abiding interests.
