"Recreational and Consentual?"
I'm home today, doing some self-care. Scrolling around the internets, like reading the morning paper and having a cup of coffee. If I'd been drinking a cup of coffee, I would have spit it on my screen after stumbling across a conversation between leatherfolk about the polygamy and child marriage situation on that Texan compound.
I never thought I'd see a casual statement that implied that incest isn't "patently wrong." I really would never have expected to encounter an equally casual comment that "recreational" incest isn't neccessarily problematic, so long as it's "consentual."
I'm about sick of this "so long as ye judge me not, who am I to judge thee" sort of "logic" that passes as scene politics. I'm a judgemental mutherfucker. I have opinions. I have deeply held beliefs that don't go sliding down the slippery slope of "your kink is okay, my kink is okay," aka "please, please don't judge me!" I know that people might not like what I believe or what I do, and I'm prepared (as best I can be) for that. I sure as hell retain my capacity for discernment, value judgement, and objection, whether I'm among leather people or the Promise Keepers. I refuse to sign up for the koolaid brigade in order to maintain my "standing" in the "community."
Some shit is just wrong. Some things shouldn't be "consented" to. Some things, though the participants might themselves disagree, should not be consented to--by the participants, or those around them.
Recreational incest. Consentual incest.
