Last week my diocese had a meeting for all the people going to WYD to get all the important info and facts to know. They talked about the pilgrimmage to the vigil site and they were saying how it was a really long walk and that they have mass at the hotel if you can't make it to the vigil site. Anyone know how long this walk is or a rough estimate ( Read more... )

If you can, the walk is *SO* worth it. The one in Toronto was about 6 miles or so (depending on where you started), and yeah, it does wear you out, but there's stopping points on the way where they'll probably provide with a snack and with water. (at least they did in Toronto). Like I said, it's worth it 100%. Maybe a lot of it will be paved (almost the whole walk in Toronto was paved) and you can use a wheel chair?

yea, i agree. it was definately worth it in toronto, even tho it rained! haha, good times! but somehow our group def probably only walked i'd say about 3 miles... or maybe the time just went by supoer fase. i dont know. i do know we didnt walk the whole thing tho bc where we started from ppl had already been walking a good ways.. we took the Metro to a certain spot. Id check into it bc i bet there are ways to walk, but not do the whole thing, at least " thats how it was in totonto.." ;)

well, as to my information the walk sure *is* long (30km afaik) but you can get quite far with public transportation (WYD ticket includes a bus/train ticket as well) so you can join in a lot later and just walk maybe 5 kilometres or something like this (I'm not entirely sure how far the whole way is and where there are bus stops in that area but it should work out)
this is what I will do because my knees are bad, too.
apart from this, if you can get your hands on boots, wear them for the walk, you can walk a lot longer without your knees starting to hurt ;)

i never know how long the walks/hikes are until i'm back home and someone tells me. they are usually a few miles or more.. probably closer to 5 or 6. they might be long but they are definitely worth it. and the above suggestions of using public transportation and other way to shorten it are great. ;) best of luck, i won't be over in germany this year... life got busy and i didn't have the money :( but my prayers are with everyone.
