My french is pretty low these days. But if your friend is looking for sources of French music - there is an excellent French and English tunes music session in London Bridge. Starts about 8.30pm and is always the first monday of the month, (except bank holidays when it is the following monday), run by Chris Shaw. And a band is formed out of it - called the George Inn Giant Ceilidh Band). Should be on the internet. I know a group of them, including Chris, go off to a festival of music, in France every year, so he might be able to help.
It's quite lively and the young uns that come in by accident tend to return.
Hope I interpreted that request, at least slightly correctly.
Knock me down with a kipper! You want the band called Blowzabella, who sing and play European material, including funky and listenable French material, Can't find any mp3's but I think most places have them, probably under folk. the album "vanilla" is pretty good.
There's also a Belgian girl band called Lais, who have Mp3's - just google Lais, and look under discography towards the lower half of the page. And Maixa Ta Ixiar who are from the Basque country: couldn't find any audio on theirs, but it was all written in French! I've heard both these bands off a sampler cd and they were good and quirky. I can always send you some french stuff on cd, by post, for another time - but have no idea how to get the tracks into the computer?!
Will also cross-reference this message to your lj, in case, any of this info helps!
Ps - You're very welcome, by the way! Always happy to be able to help where needed.
