I've always found that job to be a bit odd, and it seemed that it was demeaning. Honestly though, the issue of the job being demeaning is up to the individual person who is performing the job. I do believe that what this job does do is reinforce negative attitudes towards women, reducing them to mere objects to be observed and served off of. In so doing this the people engaging in the activity (usually men) are treating the woman as sub human. Sure the participants may engage the subject in conversation from time to time, but this practice is perfunctory at best. I should state that I have no problem with people lying around naked of there own accord, but I do mind when a person doing this loses their humanity in the eyes of the observers, which in this case I'm sure will happen. As for this being a common practice in Japan, there are a lot of practices that many people would consider odd that are performed there. lovely response, well written. my applause. i dunno, posing as inanimate objects might be fun. i may have to start out small and work my way up to "platter" impersonations. i'm going to practice impersonating a rock in my room tonight and see where that takes me. trying to build up a resume.
