For cpt_51century - Meeting Jack

Boredom was not something that sat right with the Doctor, he never was good at just relaxing. He always had to be doing something. Anything. Which is why he'd enter random co-ordinates without looking at the data on the screen. That way he'd be pleasantly surprised and he could play a guessing game as he went along. What was the fun of exploring if ( Read more... )

Everything was relatively normal. There was quite the crowd around this kiosk or the next, blocking out some of the light from the revolving blue advertisements urging visitors to stop by this boutique or an exhibit before heading off. Somewhere in the distance, the standard chattering noise of people gave way to something a bit more spiking.

"Hey!"

"Watch it!"

"Oooh!"

"Oi!"

The chorus of noises was getting closer as the sound of feet met it with an off-beat pattern. There were at least three-- No, four! -- figures cutting throught he crowds. "Oh, sorry! No grabbing! Move, move!" The voice was familiar. The itch that went along with it moreso.

Captain Jack Harkness pushed through people at top speed, barreling right towards a man he did not know that he knew.

"Out of the way, professor!"

The Doctor was knocked out of his staring contest with the odd alien when he felt a familiar itch. Well it was more like he was staring and the alien was just glaring at him for being so rude but he would deny that if anyone was to ask.

He span around, trying to locate the source of the fuzzy feeling he was getting, like an numb itch he couldn't get rid of. The feeling was getting closer and closer till it literally came flying right at him into him. Of course. Captain Jack Harkness, right there before his very eyes. Oh he couldn't help but smile, then frown. Professor? Really ( ... )

He didn't need a parade! And certainly not some human in a bowtie! No matter that he was keeping up, Jack couldn't exactly lose his tail if he had some kid tagging along. "I am running away from you. They are trying to catch me." And that's all you need to know, you nosy idiot!

When the other man just chasing him, Jack glanced up and down his far too skinny, somewhat gangly body and turned a corner a bit too quickly, hoping not just to shake off the man right at his left shoulder, but to slam him into a wall.

All he needed to do was get to the gallery. He could shake off his tail, shake off this weird idiot who latched onto him, and catch the next pod down to the moon.

The Doctor hurried after Jack, giving the other man an annoyed look. "Oi, manners go a long way you know!"

He almost lost his footing at the turning, having to brace himself against the wall... or more fall against it and push himself off clumsily. Jack was certainly being a hard one to tail, he must of really annoyed someone to be in such a rush. He sped up, overtaking Jack and spinning as he did so. That way he was facing Jack as he ran backwards, hoping the people in front would part ways to let him through. Most did, others he just bumped into awkwardly.

"Why are they trying to catch you? Oh, what have you done this time? I told you to keep that libido of yours in check Captain."

The Doctor did his best 'scolding' face, which was decidedly more effective when he had an older form and he wasn't running backwards like an idiot.

Jack groaned, held up his hands -- right, because that was helpful to a man without eyes in the back of his head...that he knew of -- and then took off after the Doctor as well. He made sure to hold onto the coat with all of his strength. It was incredibly important to him. A reminder of the person he use to be, the one actually trying to be worthy of someone's affection for once!

It was hard to stay annoyed or angry in the presence of the TARDIS, though. Jack nodded, walking -- strutting -- around the entire circumference with a grin.

"Still have my room in there?"

The Doctor clicked his fingers, turning his head to Jack with a bright grin, oh he did love that trick. He gestured for Jack to go in first, slipping in behind him and closing the rooms. It was a new TARDIS but the same old being. She seemed pleased to see Jack, even if he was impossible and by all accounts wrong, he was still good old Jack.

"Oh, of course. I keep everyone's rooms. Never know who'll you'll run into again, best to keep everything as it is. I'd hardly running out of room."

The Doctor grinned as he strolled along the TARDIS, shrugging off is jacket and draping it on the back of his chair. "Now! Captain, any particular reason you're inquiring about your room."

Jack was actually silent for a long time, not bothering to answer the question. His eyes were taking it all in as he looked over the ceiling and down the walls. He was afraid to approach the center of the room, afraid to look at the jump seats and the...type writer...that was now part of the console.

"What happened, Doctor?" There was concern in those lovely blue eyes. Not everything about Jack was sex and innuendo. He had been through quite a bit for more than adequate time. It seemed hardly fair, even if he was trying to look at it like atonement.

Hands on his hips, he was actually several inches taller than the Doctor was now. That was different.

The Doctor dropped into the chair and listened to the faint buzzing of the TARDIS around them. Jack's question caught him off guard, he didn't like when innuendos and jokes went away, it made things far too real. The Doctor cleared his throat and shrugged his shoulders.

"Lots of things, just some mishaps with the Time Lords and a few bad judgements on my behalf," The Doctor dismissed hastily, getting to his feet and running his fingers along the controls. He'd made some bad some bad calls in his last days as Ten. Oh, he did miss being the old him. He could feel that loss for himself, sure he liked his new body but it was still like losing a part of himself.

"Now, enough of all that. Its complicated, I'd prefer not to bored you," he informed Jack, putting on his best smile and leaning over the controls. A swift subject change was in order, hopefully a happy one.

"What about you then? Weren't you supposed to be staying in Cardiff this time? Couldn't deny that itch to travel then?"

The Doctor strolled behind Jack, after all it was on the way to his room and he did need to pick up those glasses. Watching Jack interact with his TARDIS made him grin, he loved when people took the time to speak to her. Then again Jack and the TARDIS had always seemed to of gotten on.

"Oi, stop flirting with my TARDIS," he warned as he walked over to one of the doors, peering into it before hastily shutting the door. "Oop, wrong room. Do not go into that one, you will get rather wet."

The Doctor pulled a face and turned around. Well at least he'd found the pool room. Rushing along and following the hallway, he picked the room that was obviously standing out amongst the others. And no wonder, it was his storage room, all his miscellanea ended up in there. Including the appropriate glasses. It only took a few moments of rooting through one of the boxes before he located it.

"Alright! I'm at the ready, hurrying along would you Jack!"

Hurry along in a wondrous new ship? The Doctor was mad. Well, that was a given, really. Loving technology and wanting to poke around did not overwrite the desire to get outside. To explore. Oh, he missed this so very much. Traveling, seeing the world, seeing the universe! It was all out there.

At least, it was the moment he took a shower, dressed in a dark blue t-shirt and his old black leather pants (someone told him that black made colors look cheap but he didn't care), and stepped out into the console room again.

"Doctor, I love your new ride," he said, grinning as he went to fetch his coat. "Got the glasses ready?"

The Doctor was waiting eagerly beside the control panel, glancing up as Jack finally returned and offering his friend a bright smile, obviously relieved Jack was done. He never was a patient man. "I love it too, brilliant setting, think I'll be keeping it for a while."

The Doctor pulled one of the glasses from his jacket pocket and tossed it across to Jack before pulling out his own. "Right then, off we go! No more stalling with showers and clothes. Things to see and people to meet," The Doctor slipped on his glasses, adjusting them so they fit properly before clapping his hands at Jack.

"Be on your best behaviour now Jack. This is a new planet, lets try to make a good impression."

Course the Doctor could talk, he tended to cause more trouble than anyone. Still, it was easier to lecture others than point it all out to himself.

"Aye, aye, Captain," Jack said cheekily, saluting with laughter. He slipped on his glasses, twisted left and right at the waist, touched his toes, and headed for the door!

As expected, the entire planet was bathed in ultraviolet. Jack's jaw just about hit the floor as he paused, right at the threshold, and turned his eyes up to gaze at the sky, the buildings, the people of all things. He squinted behind his glasses. It had been dark inside the TARDIS, and blue eyes were terribly unsuited for bright light. It took Jack, even with glasses in place, to adjust properly ( ... )
