[A: Outside 729 Anderson Lane] [Hiccup comes home from school to find that oh hey there's a package waiting for him. He stares at it for a minute before lifting it and shaking it only to find that it feels completely empty. Out of curiosity, he opens it.
The moment he opens it, part of his left leg disappears, replaced only by a bleeding stump as

"Hiccup, correct?" [a deep voice booms from behind a shining white helm.]

Uh, yeah. That's right. Who're you?

[he removes his helm]
"It is Garviel. What happened?" [he looks to Hiccup's leg.]

Oh. Right. I just... never saw you in... all that. Before. Sorry. Hi.
[Hiccup takes a breath and shakes his head.] Sorry. No, this is something that happened before I even got here, and I guess the town decided that it'd be nice to let me have only one leg again.

... wouldn't a wheelchair be easier?

Maybe, but I can still walk. Mostly.

Seems like a nice, soft room would be better to practice walking in than the streets, though.

"What happened?"

Well, I lost my leg back home and Mayfield decided to be nice enough to remember that. Basically.

And really? Really Mayfield? Now, of all times? What is it with this town and amputating Hiccup's limbs? He puts down what he's working on and makes his way over to the bleeding boy, giving the leg a glance before picking him up.]
Let me guess -- this was a regain?
[Aaaand just gonna take Hiccup into the garage. He can't really sew the wound shut, obviously, and just bandaging it won't work -- cauterization is likely the best course of action.]

Haaaaaaaaa apparently!

[He sets Hiccup down on the table and gets to looking for tools. The last time he had to clean and cauterize a wound in Mayfield was eight months ago, when Fran lost her arms, and all he had on-hand was some vodka, a knife, and an open flame. This is likely going to go much better.
And then his eyes fall on the healing engine he built. It's a bit too large for this job, really -- too big to just strap to Hiccup's leg. But if he can just thread the tubing in and hold it steady, it should have the same effect. Luckily, this wound is much smaller and shouldn't take that long to heal.
Besides, then he won't have to build a cauterizing apparatus and waste time.]
A question -- would you prefer to be knocked out for the healing process, or does it not matter to you?

Uuuuh... is it going to hurt more than it already does?

Thanks. I worked hard on that one.
[Aaaand working on getting back on his feet now. Might take a minute.]

[Yeah that made no sense. But he's standing now, that's a good thing.]
I mean that I had just lost my leg back home before I got brought here, then I had my leg back, and I just got it taken away again. So. Yeah.
