I just consumed my copy of Song of Susannah. It was amazing, but convoluted and strange in parts. Two of the protagonists actually meet the author at one point (which I think is an awkward position for a story to be in). Anyways, I'd say more, but I'm still mulling over the story

I didn't know you were that far behind! For some reason, I thought that the reason you were taking that scary lab class was to get in the door of a good school, etc., etc. But it won't be all bad. Plans sometimes don't work out the exact way you make them, but at least you'll be able to take a break, and really experience life, without school. The freedom is exhilirating. And of course you may have to work, but the burden of being paid is surely one you can live with. Let me know how it works out.
