And this just in . . . .

I am stepping out of my office, coffee cup in hand, homing in on that wonderful-smelling hazelnut coffee someone has made in the break room. Kitty is hurrying down the hall toward me, full of news: "Did you hear? She's dead!"

JoAnn comes up the hall from behind me. "Who's dead?"

Sometimes people's priorities are amazing.

Ronnie was also very upset by this, which bemused me. He said she was the closest thing to Marily Monroe that we had in this era? I don't think she had the class...

You left me with a lot to think about..just deleted a long reply but thought twice. Still thinking.

I appreciate the irony. Human beings are a tragic bunch sometimes, aren't they?

I get this kind of thing, too. I have no idea who popular actors are but ask me about science and I'm all over it. (That and most punk music.) Do you get "The Dog"? This is when you say something that is so out of the other person's realm, that they tilt their head to one side and raise an eyebrow the way a dog looks at you when you talk to it. I get that a lot. I used the word "quiescent" today and only the English professor knew what it meant. *Sigh*

WHAT a wonderful description!!!

Yes, I get that a lot. One of my favorite responses to my use of $10 words was from a co-worker. He said to me (jokingly) one day, "You know, I know some big words myself -- like "mayonnaise" and "watermelon", but I don't go bandying them about."

I still like using real words -- why say "the (whatever) was still, not moving at all" when you can say "the (whatever) was quiescent". Good for you!

Didn't Arthur Miller play third base for the Dodgers back in the 60s? Or was that Steve?
