A hard day’s night

Aug 16, 2020 21:36

Or why I am like a ruptured slug unable to accomplish anything at the moment. This is mostly photos from a night of work.

Come with me, it’s 21h20 and I am arriving for my night.

Look how cheery I am as I leave the changing room.

Look at the happy covid poster in the lift.

Handover takes about 30 minutes.

I am supposed to start by putting all this stuff away...

So much stuff, and I don’t even know where it all goes.
However I also have to prepare tomorrow’s medication for 26 patients at five minutes per patient, so I will be finished sometime between midnight and 1am.

I like to get it done as early as possible because I am terrified of making a mistake, which shouldn’t be fatal because the day staff recheck before administration but what if they are really busy...

Of course I also have to answer bells at the same time...
After the drugs we must do a round of the patients, and then enter everything into the computer.

Then I must check the controlled drugs.

At 2 am there is an IV antibiotic to set up. Then I can set to, putting all the stuff away.

By 2.45 I have pretty much finished... so just bells now. We can sit down, and drink something, even eat some food. Nothing is provided so I need to bring my own little bowl of oats and almond milk.
Then I need to prepare for the morning blood tests.

There are six today.
I am also supposed to clean these dressing trollies but I am afraid that I am refusing for the moment because I am so worn out that cleaning trollies just feels like a big ask.

We start the morning round at around 4.30... picture from halfway round the first floor.

Then computer time again.

At 6.15 the day staff arrive and at sometime after 6.30 we can go home.

Too tired to smile before home.

work, a day in my life, bring your own whine
