"grandpa?"
leaning heavily on his cane he looked down at his granddaughtor, sitting with her feet dangling over the face of the cliff.
"why do you like the stars so much?"
he stood for a moment, quitely composing his responce.
"because, they are the remaining memories of the very first known instances of pure human emotion."
she looked up at him, she was confused but not to the point of boredom.
"when the earth was first created it was populated entirely by gods. these gods were charged with bringing life to this fertal world. as each of these gods completed their designated tasts they arose to the sky. from there they watched as the world grew and matured. once in a while an inhabitant of the world would create such a remarkable feat in existance and the gods would allow that person the right to ascend to their heavens and become the stars we now see."
with her eyes widened, and her mouth gaping, she gazed in awe of the night sky for the first time. her mind was flooded as she began to find intricuate designes throughout the sky.
"i see a warrior, grandpa. something is forcing him back"
"its a bear" he said quietly "this was the first time man ever defended himself against a predator of nature. both had never seen one-anothers kind before and a fierce battle ensued. for days these two engaged in mortal combat, and as they did so their silhouettes were etched into the night sky by the gods who watched with elation."
the two stood silent for a while, both lost among the stars that shown before them. her head scanned back and forth, admiring the plethora of storys, and designes. the grandpa stood looking straight ahead slowly moving his eyes to and fro.
"look to the west, you see those 2 triangles? one rests at the edge of the milkyway, and the other down and to the right."
she looked straight ahead from where his finger pointed, squinting her eyes, even though she was looking right at the stars her grandpa was refering to.
"those ones?"
she pointed straight ahead
"yes, those. its those stars that tell the most tragic stories of unrequited love."
"whats 'unrequited love', grandpa?"
"it's when the you feel strongly towards a certian person, but they do not feel the same way about you."
the girl sat and thought about it for a moment, nodding her head shortly thereafter and looked up at her grandpa looking intently at the sky. knowing she was looking up at him, the grandpa slowly turned his head and looked down at her, and quietly began his story.
"the first story is that of the triangle that is slightly emerged in the milkyway.
three people stand in an open field creating a V formation, 2 males and a female separated by a yard or more. in this scenario the two males are starring intently at the female. in silent they long to be more intimate with her, their eyes scan up and down her body. their eyes borrow deep within her, for they each desire to see her true feelings towards them. the female, positioned at the point of their configuration, looks straight ahead; her face covered with a form-fitting mask. the mask which the female uses to conceal her face is a thin piece of cloth with eyes cleverly drawn and painted over its entire surface. with this mask she is able to keep the attention of all those whom lay their eyes upon her. its with this trick that she has entranced these two males. as the males gaze into her painted eyes they hear gentle whispers pertaining to that which they greatly want to hear, but the whispers are undeniably faint and merely mean that which the subject desperately desires to hear.

for an eternity the males stand basking in swelling wisps of sounds that speak specifically to their desires; sexual, romantic, friendly, and crazed. they lick their lips and continue, egged on, in their goal to truly reach this female on such a level that she would remove her mask and move closer to the one that would in-turn shower her with unparalleled love and affection.

with out looking away from the stars she quietly asked; "whats the story of the other constilation, grandpa?"

three people stand in an open field creating a V formation, 2 males and a female separated by a yard or more. the first male stands starring longingly towards the female who stands quietly at the point of their convenient configuration. the mans un-hindered attention is either un-noticed by the female, or intentionally ignored. the female --seemingly oblivious to the males attention-- stand gazing at the second male on the other side of their configuration. she watches him with intent and attraction, in her mind juggling through possible romantic scenarios --in much the same way we can assume the aforementioned male fantasizes about her. the male, on the other hand, stares outward. he is very aware of the situation taking place behind him, but he cares little for it. his eyes wander hopefully over the horizons; in his mind he’s looking for something far grander, something that cant even begin to fathom.

And so they stand for eternity, wishing for a mere grasp of the pleasure derived from truly requited love, which all three deeply desire.
