5. It depends a bit on the exact layout of stuff on your phone, and possibly what you're running on your desktop/laptop, but I can tell you that I do indeed do this all the time between my Ubuntu boxes and all of my Android devices, cell phone included.
I have a feeling you're in a world of XY Problems, where you've decided on the route you want to drive from here to there, and want someone to provide a bridge for this river you've encountered midway, rather than asking "what's the best route to drive from here to there?"
I'm also wondering whether you primarily want a *phone* or a *pocket computer* ... and if the latter, I wonder whether you might not be more satisfied by a tablet, running whatever OS.
