Mark your calendars folks! In a Safe Zones coordinator meeting, we talked about having a brown-bag lunch discussion of the sting operations conducted by Harrisonburg police. I will try to make it. I find these sting operations reprehensible in quite a few ways. I, too do not care for people soliciting for sex in the parks, but like you said, there are lots of people of all gender persuasions engaging in sex in public places. As for these sting operations I am disturbed by the fact that gay establishments are seemingly the only ones targeted. Plus a lot of the archaic sex laws are ridiculous and not confined to gay people, as you said. We are all breaking the law.

sex in public parks? well, I've NEVER done that... mmwwahahahahaha. Is it better if it's in the middle of the day instead of in the middle of the night? Less shady, perhaps?

I think the fact that these officers go undercover to bust these men is nothing shy of community sponsered bullying.

I especially love your sentence, I'm sure they don't think that they're breaking VA law when their girlfriends/wives are bent over the bed, takin' it doggy style ... or even when they're gettin' a blow job!" You should put that in a letter to the Editor... seriously.

cops do this with prostitution all the time, and I don't think its called entrapment

seems to me that it would be entrapment..u know how if a cop is trynna bust someone for selling drugs and if the dealer asks them if theys a cop the cop has to tell them they r b/c thats entrapment...this is kinda the same thing...hmm...possible solution...if ur ever propositioned for sex, always ask if theys a cop first ;)

Another method that they use involves placing cameras outside of the establishment that the men are caught in. A friend of mine told me (mind you, this is word of mouth) that apparently the cops are keeping an eye on this one place (the Daily News ... or something like that ... its down 11 south) and the DMV placed cameras outside of the place. Whoever goes there will get their car license plate recorded. Thats fucked up if you ask me!
