Walk Out That Door Backwards

When I was writing ficlets and drabbles I never actually got much further than these few lines between Mal and Inara. I love Firefly but I was 100 years late to the party and everyone had moved on by the time I was invested.

“Don’t rightly see how that would be any of your business, Ambassador.”

“It becomes my business, Captain, when it prevents me from conducting my own.”

“You not convinced the locals out here can pay for your trade? You’d be surprised at some of the wealth hides out here. Anyway, that's besides the point. We got a job and I got a mighty hungry crew wants paying so we’re gonna take that job-the greater good and all that.”

“Mal, you know as well as I that there is plenty of work in Persephone.”

“An’ plenty of trouble. We’re laying low. You don’t like it you’re welcome to take your leave.”
