Well. I feel like I've gotta add my $0.02 - also 'cause I work in that industry. But yeah.

Next gen is overhyped in many ways, but my god - average dev time is a year and a half for a current gen game, and along with increased team sizes (25 to 50-60 people) and budget (into the tens of millions at least), that's going to increase. Many titles missed the launch, and really, I think that Microsoft kinda dropped the ball on the launch title selection... they didn't screw the pooch on it totally, just did it Their Way (which doesn't always work. Certainly didn't work in Japan ( ... )

All Ninentdo needs to do to get me to buy any system is put a Punch-Out!! game on it.

If you ask me, if fingers are to be pointed, it's to:
1. the PUBLISHERS. They're the money, and they want what sells.
2. the BUYERS. That's you, and me, and others. The fuckers who bought the latest Madden when Psychonauts was sitting right there on the shelf. Games fail from bugs or bad marketing or being ill-timed but also? Sometimes games fall through the cracks, and who are the people buying sequel after sequel? YOU. All of us. We make the problem ( ... )
