Survived the weekend

In last two weeks, did three library book sales. The first one is huge and everything is in alphabetical order, so was easy to find stuff. It was in a school gymnasium so A/C and auditorium and I did find some books but not a lot. The second one was held outside under tents as library doesn't have that much space. Found half a dozen books and a ( Read more... )

I love Tony Hillerman. I have some of his books and the movies they made from some of his books. I have to try our local library book sales myself, see what they have.

Yup, going through a heat wave too. Staying inside where I can keep semi cool.

It's good no one was chasing Pokemon because it's getting ridiculous with people being robbed and having car accidents chasing these imaginary things. In the end your risking your life for nothing.

Good to see your back hon.

Wow, last time I posted Pokemon Go was all the rage and now it's evaporated. And the heat wave is gone. I'm sobbing. I don't like the cold and it's even winter yet!

My library is lucky enough to be in a building with an auditorium that we take over for a week to set out our stuff for sale, so we have air conditioning, which is a must for a sale in August.

We only do "rough sort" though, putting non-fiction together by Dewey 100s (with signs indicating the types of books in each one), and hardcover/trade fiction covering one long stretch of table. The latter we do at least try to cluster books by the same author together, but it's useless to alphabetize because it would last maybe five minutes if we could ever get it done.

I know some sales ban scanners, either completely or on certain days. I'm mixed on them, because we might have a couple at each sale and can make a lot more money off them than individuals, yet if they park themselves and block others from looking or start tossing books around, then you can bet my volunteers will be fetching me to deal with it. Yay, the fun of being in charge. :)

I can understand why they allow scanners. Libraries want to sell the books to make money to keep libraries open. If the people using them were just more, well, POLITE, it would be fine.

I see what you mean about joining the club. I used to hit up library book sales and the Printers Row Book Fair, but my vision has hit a point where it's easier to read ebooks because I can customize the display for more comfortable reading.

I never used to like audiobooks, but after I realized how much time I was spending in the car each week (especially in the summer with construction-enhanced commutes) I figured that was a lot of reading time I was missing out on. Now my dad (not a reader) rolls his eyes at me for reading 2 books at once: one on audiobook in the car and one on my tablet everywhere else.

A student at the college where a friend of mine works ran out into the road chasing Pokemon on her phone last week. Fortunately she wasn't hit, but she never looked up from her phone.

The only thing I'm watching at the moment is Killjoys.

Right now I'm not doing audiobooks as I'm listening to NPR. Presidental election stuff, well, as much as I can tolerate. Will get back to them probably after that.

Why can adults behave so badly and people still want to elect them?
No idea.

I've been to one library sale, and ended up with all sorts of books I really didn't need. lol

Oh, it's so easy to end up with books you don't need. A tower of them toppled over last night and I thought, I really need to read through 'em and get rid of 'em!
