dr-tectonic describes it in this post. It's really simple. I've had a DW journal for a while now and periodically back up there. It doesn't keep my many icons because I don't have them at DW, but it does keep posts, photos, and all comments. (It changes commenters' ID to OpenID if they don't have DW, but you can still tell who it is: you can see an example from my own imported post here.)
I opened a Dreamwidth account several years ago, during one of the DOS attacks I think. I'm margec01 there, too. I even downloaded the directions on moving over there: http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=127 But time passed, I was lazy, and so few people are here anymore it didn't seem worth the bother.
I'm paid up here until Nov 2017. I nearly let it go this year, insofar as I didn't bother to check if I had a recent credit card on file or an expired one. But it's only$20 a year so when my card was still a good expiration date, I didn't bother to cancel. But it was a close thing.
I think there are more people over at DW now--I mean more people compared to lj now. Or maybe not.
Its a shame to feel so ambivalent about something that was so wonderful just 10 years ago. But in computer years, that's about 50, I guess. ;-)
So weird, because I get a good page when I click on my saved bookmark, but when I use the link I left here--the same exact link!--I get Page Not Found.
And you can see above, marilla's link is the same thing. Ah, the vagaries of the Internet.
Let me know if if this is something I need to worry about because I would like to get my credit card removed from LJ if all this stuff I have been reading is real?
