Expletive deleted Photobucket

If you see NO pictures on my LJ, it's because those bastards (too kind a word) at Photobucket are now holding photos hostage unless you upgrade to a pricier package, starting at 'cheap' fee of $60 a year or $400 if you want more. It's insane. I have HUNDREDS of photos on this LJ. This sooooo sucks. It's given me a headache so not sure what I'll do ( Read more... )

And I'm so late in replying. Yup, and I'm not paying their hideous new fees. I'll just have to, when I find the time, find a decent picture host. Sigh.

Any third party hosting requires the $399/year price with Photobucket. The lower levels do not allow it at all, but there are other features which are useless as tits on a frog because people mostly use the service to host photos to use elsewhere.

Your pics are still there are you can download them by album, but that doesn't work with gifs, so that's going to make for slow going for a lot of people who had reaction gifs over there. You have to download gifs one at a time. Thankfully, I kept most of my pics on my harddrive, so I didn't have to download much.

From what I understand, many are moving to Imgur, though that requires redoing a lot of links if you want to fix back posts. I went the simple route and hosted static images in LJ's archaic photo storage and fixed posts back to the first of the year. Thankfully most of my gifs are on Tumblr, so there's no need to store elsewhere to post.

When I get around to it ;) I'll have to do that I guess. I know my photos at still at PB, but just can't link 'em. What a headache.

The real kicker is Photobucket didn't expect the backlash.

"Was the customer backlash expected? Corpus paused. For 12 seconds. “No,” he finally said."

They suck! I was going there to see the photos used in the ICon contests and they blocked me because I had a add blocker on. The person doing the ICon challenges
just found out that they won't let people host pictures there for 3rd party sites unless that pay 400 dollars. She will have to look for free hosting
somewhere else.

What they should have done is said you can pay, or you can have an ad next to your photo. I'd have chosen the ad to save the money!

I think people should start a class action suit against them. They started with free accounts and they should have given people the option to take there stuff off of FB.

I also posted about this a few days ago. You haven't seen it as it is a friends locked entry.

I am not sure Imgur is a good solution, apparently they allow linking in public forums but not on personal blogs, which I think LJ is.

I have moved to Postimage now. I will at least redo all my action figure pictures there.

A LOT of forums with content of 10 years are broken now. That's really not good.

Oh geez, guess Imgur is out then. how is Postimage working out? Wish I'd won that $750M powerball as they I could pay and pay someone to switch all the links as well! ;)

I think it works great! You can even upload there without being logged in. But if you make an account, you also can do folders. Not folders-in-folders though like in PB ( ... )
