OOC post: quirks, oddities and "headcanon"

Jul 18, 2010 06:16

Anyone who knows me knows that I can't resist chewing on canonicity until it pleads for mercy. ;3 Sometimes this results in elaborate AU works; other times, I'm just trying to beat canon into shape.

Anyone who knows me also knows that I get flaily when confronted with the idea of just writing out my musing and headcanon ( Read more... )

I think that Phantom's reaction will depend on what information is offered and in what way -- but by all means, if the opportunity comes up X3

Not at the moment, no, I'm afraid; Phantom's somewhat in limbo until I know how his scan is going to be handled.

But I'll drop a note if I work something out.

SO LIKE, THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN MY OWN CURIOSITY-

Why does your Phantom use the Japanese titles for the Guardians? 8|a On the one hand, I can see why you would prefer the Japanese over the English translation (the way it's done in Japanese feels more elegant IMO) but... yea. /forgot where she was taking this

Story-wise, because by that point the word's become more of a title than a phrase from a specific language; much the way English has absorbed other words and titles, really.

Real-world-wise, because "Hidden" grates on my nerves like nails down a chalkboard (really, only Harpuia's and Leviathan's English-version titles sound sensible to me) and "Shadow General" is long, cumbersome and kind of poncy ~

So! Reflecting that by the time of Neo-Arcadia there's really only one culture, I use the Japanese title as a name prefix and am amused that Phantom probably doesn't even know where the word-phrase came from X3

Phantom probably doesn't even know where the word-phrase came from

Less "more elegant" and more "goddamn that sounds naff, why couldn't they have picked a better word in English" ~ ;3

I like playing word soup, though, to make a setting more unique; and when there's been as much history lost and scrambled as there is in this series, it's pretty bloody easy *grins* Which is also why I use "Daevas" or, more formally, "Lords of Heaven" or "Kings of Heaven" instead of "Guardians" or "Shitennou" ...

pffft Nii-san, that's so adorable. ♥

Best part is his obliviousness ~
