Okay, I caved and bought the kit. It wasn't terribly expensive (it only makes a throw, not a full sized quilt) and I just love the signature fabric. Plus I just like spooky autumn coloured fabric.
If I make a triangles border in black and pieced triangles of yellow, orange and white, I can enlarge it by about 12" all around (for a six inch border) and the triangles will look like candy corn and witches hats... especially if I put the black triangles facing out and bind it in the same black.
That turns out to be a bad idea... the orange of the candy corn makes everything else look faded so I'll deal with a throw unless something else comes to mind.
Arrgh! I'm having to add bits to the backing because I used a piece that was just a bit too small... thank goodness I never plan to show this quilt.
A note on the quilting patterns- I used cookie cutters dipped in wet chalk powder to mark the leaves and acorns.
